ReplyDeleteShelter magazine: Traditional Home
Movie set: Auntie Mame
Museum: tie between Winterthur and the American wing at the Met
Wonderful inspiration for traditional interiors can be found in the set designs of the following films:
ReplyDelete"Love Crazy" 1936
"The Philadelphia Story"1940
"Craig's Wife" 1936
The set designs in the first two films reveal the great talent of the unsung Edwin Willis. The latter, the heralded Billy Haines.
Anon-Wonderful choices-I especially like the Auntie Mame and Winterthur where I did much study of American decorative arts while at Bryn Mawr. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteTreasurehunter-Brilliant!!!! "I can only tell you this-I would rather have taste than either love or money"-Biily Haines
ReplyDeleteSR2-
ReplyDeleteOr it could mean that I am hopelessly stuck in a time warp. Most designers and architects that I know seem to find the antiques and fine collections extremely passe and dare I say it? Pretentious and devoid of style.

I also have to mention that I LOVE the movie Something's Gotta Give (especially the scenes in Paris).
Some of my inspirations are :
- Tord Boontje
- Ingo Maurer
- Marilyn Monroe
- Olafur Eliasson
- I.M. Pei
- The Barefoot Contessa (I love Ina)
- Fracas Perfume
Anyway, I would be so honored if I would win :)

Sam @ Pretty Lovely-Love, love, love your list. Adore I.M. Pei-I went to Bryn Mawr undergrad and ate every day at his gorgeous dorm Erdham. Fracas is my all time favorite perfume. So classic. Love Tord Boontje installations. Very sophisticated list. P.S. you definitely have a thing for prisms.
ReplyDeleteSanity Fair-wonderful list-so great to see someone who embraces all the style and wisdom of the past. Two D.C. inclusions-I live 10 minutes from Mount Vernon.
ReplyDeletemodernemama-you are definitely modern and great alliteration with the random!
