Yesterday I decided to take advantage of the wonderful weather by relaxing in my building's courtyard. The landscaping is phenomenal. It's just like an English garden. My apartment building is right in the heart of Georgetown, D.C., very convenient to my work and close to the bustling activity of M Street. The building is older, charming, and elegant. The private courtyard, quite large btw, is one of the great highlights of living here. It's nice lounging on one of the stone benches and just freeing your mind. Residents often throw parties out here in the summertime. It's easy to forget you're in the city when you're at a place like this.
I've been living at this building for almost two years and yesterday marked the first time I saw a courtyard duck! This was an exciting moment for me because I've loved ducks since I was a kid. He emerged from the pond and headed straight towards the pansies where he proceeded to bury his beak in the grass and soil. He was leisurely strolling through the garden, perhaps enjoying his surroundings as much as I do. I was glad to discover this little guy is not picture shy. Thanks to my iphone I captured a few decent photographs. The fountain sculpture looks especially beautiful in these shots.
Such a pretty little courtyard! How wonderful to have it right out your backdoor. DC has so many ducks - I remember last year when the city had to go put grates on all the drains near the Mall - the little ducklings were getting sucked into the sewers, poor things!
ReplyDeleteSF-This is my daughter's (and co-blogger's) apartment building in Georgetown. Sometime we will have to do a post on her apartment-it is gorgeous!
