Who knew that a safety pin could be the next big trend in fashion? The brilliant Marc Jacobs of course. His Pre-Fall 2009 Collection is cutting edge cool. I just viewed the collection at his store in SoHo and it is amazing. Taking the simple safety pin and using it to adorn chic handbags and jewelry is an interesting idea that he has executed very well. I am especially drawn to the little black and beige clutch with its punk vibe. Notice how the stone on the bag really turns it into a piece of jewelry. Marc is also selling the oversized safety pin alone to pin on anything you like.
The black stam with the beige trim and double safety pin is a classic but edgy combination.
This cobalt blue stam will really pop in a season filled with black and gray.
Marc Jacobs isn't the only creative designer with this idea. These Bodhi safety clutches are incredibly chic and modern. The enormous safety pins and ostrich leather are quite swoon worthy.
The smooth leather Bodhi clutches are gorgeous too.
This safety pin necklace by Marc Jacobs makes quite a statement.
These Marc Jacobs tassel earrings have a vintage feel.
This Marc Jacobs charm bracelet is so charming.
This C. C. Skye necklace is quite subtle and was featured on my beloved "Gossip Girl."
Oversize safety pins always make me think of kilts I wore when I was little and the "friendship pins" I made back in the 80's. Fun memories. Thanks, Beth, and have a great M. Day!
ReplyDeleteannechovie- I loved wearing kilts as a girl and still sport one every now and then! Hope you're having a good holiday too.

Great collection of pieces! I'm so glad my deep blue, Dolce & Gabbana blazer (with 3 pins - one at front, two at each cuff) is back in vogue again :) That white handbag has me swooning, it's such a mix of sassy and elegance - I'm quite taken~
ReplyDeleteWOW, haven't seen pins incorporated like that since I used them back on my school girl outfits. They are extremely cute and glad they are back, especially with the introduction to the designer handbags such as Marc Jacobs.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Anne -- I'm completely reminded of the kilts I wore through elementary school! Generally, I don't really like the idea of using saftey pins in fashion (too messy/unfinished, perhaps?), but I admit those clutches with the oversized safety pins are tres chic.
ReplyDeleteThe only safety pin style I remember are those little pins from childhood with beads - usually in the shape of flags. But THESE are chic! Marc Jacobs, especially, of course.
ReplyDeleteSarah Klassen- your D&G blazer sounds so luxe. You should a post a picture sometime!
ReplyDeletefashionkraaziness- Glad to hear you're on board with this fun trend. Thanks for visiting!
ReplyDeleteAverill- Those Bodhi clutches are so luxurious. I'd kill for one. :)
ReplyDeleteSanity Fair- I now have a newfound appreciation for the safety pin! The Marc Jacobs bags are beyond great.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen safety pins this way and I absoultley LOVE it, thanks so much for posting this!
ReplyDeleteMy husband really likes the oversized safetypins. Any idea where I could buy one just to accessorize with?
ReplyDeleteI can't help thinking about kids at my school that wore safety pins as earrings in middle school. ick.
