A Bit of Ballet

I love statement necklaces. One of my own favorites is this Battement Necklace I bought earlier this year from Anthropologie. It's a great way to add an ultra-feminine look to any outfit, and marries my love of the ballet and pink. Although it is no longer available, here are two other great similar looks to jazz up your fall/winter wardrobe, both very well priced. At Etsy, add this white Elizabethan ruff to black or gray for a knockout look. At Anthropologie, this pale beige tulle collar would be stunningly ephemeral against navy, black, or chocolate brown. Or do as Diana Vreeland suggested, and tie tulle around your wrists! I plan to wear my tulle necklace tonight with this navy blue wool dress trimmed in silk organza by Phillip Lim.

Tulle was all over the runways for this fall and it is a look I adore. But this approach is my absolute favorite-pairing a black tulle skirt with a dressy but covered up top that would be stunning from fall all the way through the holidays. I love this idea for this fall for fancy dinners out and dinner parties, but it is also ideal for holiday entertaining and parties. J.Crew is a great source for cashmere sweaters in an array of colors and dressy embellished tops. Betsey Johnson is an excellent source for her wonderful petticoats that can be worn as skirts. This an elegant and sophisticated look perfect for so many occasions. The Balmain outfit above and the Limi Feu below are wonderful examples.

Tulle continues to be all over the runways in designers' fall collections. I love this ballerina look and have scouted out some fabulous and well priced pieces on Etsy. The tutu skirt above is available in any length or color and uses 400-600 yards of tulle for $90. The one below by the same designer for $100.

My Ballerina Fantasy & Teen Vogue

I started ballet at the age of five and have never gotten over my complete and utter adoration of black, pink, and tulle. I almost collapsed seeing the Monique Lhuillier dress on Emma Watson in the August issue of Teen Vogue. It may be just me, but although I am hardly a teenager, my favorite fashion magazine by far is Teen Vogue. I love its mix of high and low end, vintage and modern, and fun and fearless use of jewelry and head wear. Perhaps it's because their aesthetic is closer to the five year old ballerina in me.
