The Thigh Grazing Boot

Marc Jacobs

Thigh high boots are a big hit on the fall runways. Designers agree the higher the better. You may think this trend is only reserved for younger women, but the sophistication of these boots combined with the chic styling will surprise you.

Once upon a time thigh high boots reminded you of Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman." This fall you'll only think of Anne Hathaway's coveted Chanel's in “The Devil Wears Prada.” A boot originally written off as trashy has transformed into a sexy investment piece. The great thing about this boot is that it looks good with virtually anything. I'm very much interested in the legging boot, as I like to call them, shown everywhere from Gucci to Stella McCartney to Roberto Cavalli. These boots mold to your legs like a second skin. Of course they look stellar on the models, but how will it translate on us mere mortals? I'm willing to experiment for the sake of a great trend. Prada and Hussein Chalayan turn up the heat with garter boots. I easily fall for anything lingerie-inspired so my interest has been peaked. Chloe and Pucci focus on slouchy leather boots that add instant length to your gams. While at Louis Vuitton and Rodarte it's all in the details.

I love these convertible boots from Free People. You can cuff or scrunch them down, making their versatility an irresistible fall find. And I think they look straight off the runway.

Here's another cute pair from Free People that are great for those who love a slouchy cuffed boot.

And the color of this Topshop boot is channeling Pucci's runway show.

  1. "The Devil Wears Prada" instantly came to mind as soon as I saw the title and first image of your post. I loved how she wore the Chanel boots with class and a sexy edge. I just adore the Stella McCartney pair for everyday wear, and there are some stunning styles for evenings out, such as the Guccis~

    Thanks for posting~

  2. Sarah Klassen- One of my favorite moments in "Devil Wears Prada" is when she stuns her coworkers in head to toe Chanel. The Stella McCartney are beyond sexy. I SO want them.

  3. I love the Stella ones the best. But the Ralph Lauren are pretty sweet, too. I actually really like a lot of these and the way they are styled.

  4. ticklishfromadistance- We all seem to love the Stella's. The Ralph Lauren are so classic. I hope to see people in these come fall, but it all comes down to the way you style them.

  5. Wow - WHAT a post! You outdid yourself. Fantastic. I love the dove grey examples- an unusually soft color for such a strong accessory.

  6. They do look awesome but I definitely think they would be nearly impossible to put on.

  8. The Clothes Horse- I never really thought about it. But yes, the tighter ones in particular, would be a major challenge.

  13. I definitely prefer this trend in its Gucci/Stella McCartney iteration -- the tighter, the better. It's like a pair of amazing leather pants without the pain of having to pull them on/off whenever you have to use the bathroom!

That said though, I'm afraid they're completely impractical in Houston. My legs would positively fry!

  14. Averill- Exactly. The tight boots are my favorite and are a great substitute to the leather pant. But yeah, unfortunately you're unable to sport such an awesome trend in such warm climate. Take advantage of NY and D.C. more in the winter!
