Spring Takes Flight

Full of fantasy and femininity, these fabulous feathered frocks are not for the faint of fashion. Feathers take their place as a major trend for spring 2010.

  6. Let's see if I can keep this thought stream coherent. Over the weekend, I was reading a book about post Cold-War Germany, and it quoted a film made by Billy Wilder (and his fellow German Film students) called Menschen am Sonntag (People on Sunday,) and it was nothing more than footage shot over some weekends in Berlin (1929) of people on Sunday. Some of the scenes were set up using models and actors, but overall it was people on the street, getting off buses, laying in the grass in the park--that type thing...haunting for us looking back, because we know where Berlin was headed in a few years. Annnyywwwayyy...I went to You Tube, and sure enough, there was footage of the film to watch. In the comments field, one person had written, "Everyone is wearing hats and seems dressed up! Why is that?" Another person wrote back, "Because back then when people left the house, they wanted to look their best." It being Sunday, watching a film about Sunday, I thought, "Amen."

Now here it is Tuesday, and I was looking at these gorgeous, flirty, fun, beautiful dresses and thinking, "How wonderful to walk into a lounge, or a restaurant, and see someone in these floaty, frothy things." Why? Because when people leave the house, they should want to look their best," --lighten the load of life, as it were. I wish , as a whole, that people still wanted to try.
